my dd2 (age 16months) mastered shape sorters at around the age of 10months. a few moments ago her sister asked for a drink, so dd2 toddled off to the cupbaord, got a cup, then got the correct lid in the same colour. she then proceded to match up the other lids and cups.

is this normal? i cant remember what age her sister started things like this, but i'm a bit shocked as she seems really young to me still.

I would have thought colour-matching was something they can do FROM 2 years old. Sounds like she's a v bright little girl, Misdee.

Ds in 20 months and has no interest in shape sorters or colour matching although he will tell me if something is yellow and then say cheese please and smile. So I agree your dd sounds very bright.

Both of mine did that from a young age. DS1 used to like matching teletubbies cards to the ones on the box. He always used to carry them round in pairs as well.

i thought it was quite young to be doing this. she colour matches a lot. she can also build blocks pretty well. i'm just still in shock really. its also the fact as soon as u mention any words to do with drinks or food, she is straight to the cupboard to get cups/plates.

she still only has a few words tho (mummy, daddy, nanny and gar for her sister), but her scribble talk is great, and funny to listen to.

my ds does a similar thing but with jigsaws
he got several 3 piece jigsaws in a pack fro christmas - he cant fit them together himslef but brings me the 3 matching bits and shouts 'go' to get me to make the jigsaw...and it goes on with the other 5 jigsaws!!
