Nightime traumas

Hi all
would appreciate some advice on our current "problem". Our almost 3 year old has had an accursed cough/cold for 3 weeks now despite the amoxycillin although I appreciate these things are rife this time of year and would go through her nursery (to which she's not been to for a couple of weeks) like the proverbial hot knife. The night problems start if she actually wakes from the coughing (despite the cot being raised at the top end). She seems highly traumatised and if DH goes into her bedroom instead of me she goes ballistic and orders him to leave aggressively. This is highly surprising behaviour as they are extremely close. Even with me it takes ages for her to drop off again (esp if she takes the opportunity to sit on the potty while I'm there) and this can be 3-4 times a night. So my query I guess is what is causing her to wake up in such a highly stressed manner? Is it a nightmare or possibly one of the last rear molars yet to come through? This is so unlike her.

Many thanks

If she's waking up so often and coughing through the night then she's probably absolutely shattered. It sounds like she's tired, ill and 2 :) Don't worry about it yet but if she's still waking up in the night once she's better then she might need a few nights of sleep training.

Is there another reason why she's off nursery? She might be a bit thrown by being out of routine. I'd discuss it with the nursery.

A humidifier or a damp towel on the radiator might help with the coughing at night too.

Hope she makes a speedy recovery.
