How long from walking with walker to walking independently?

Our 11 month old DD is walking with her baby walker. Can anyone give me any ideas on how long it will be until she's toddling about on her own? One of the reasons I ask is that we're going skiing at Christmas :) and I'm wondering whether I'll need to buy waterproof boots for her!

My lazy little monster took about 3-4 months! He was much faster crawling so even when he started walking independently he'd do 4 steps then switch to his knees!

Can't give an answer to that DD never bothered walker or crawling. She cruised from about 8 months and walked the day she turned 11months.

Took ages for my DS. He was cruising pretty much from the day he could crawl (I forget exactly when.. maybe around 10 months?), but didn't walk unaided until about 14 or 15 months.

Not exactly the same thing, but from walking holding a parent's hand to independently was 5 months for my friend's DD, and for my same-age DS, 5 days. I think it varies. :)

Walking with a walker or on hands is not true 'walking' as it just required the legs to be stong enough to support baby's weight and does not take into account brain development to support balance and coordination.

Walkers/bouncers etc to not contribute to that.
Babies will walk independently in their own time.

FWIW, DS1 walked on his own at 11 months, DS2 17 months, DS3 and 4 at exactly a year. DS1 was v cautious, hardly ever fell because he never attempted anything difficult, DS2 looked like a victim of GBH for a few months because he went straight to running and bumping into things at high speed, DS3 was the most 'normal' of the lot and DS4 now 2.9 is an insane climber - nothing had prepared me for that!!

It is trite but so true: they all do if when they are ready. Before 18 months there is rarely anything to worry about.

DS cruised at 8 months but didn't walk until 16 months! Other babies I know cruised and walked soon after - there's really no way of telling, sorry.

I don't think you'll be needing boots yet though, because even when they first start walking independently there's a transition period where they can crawl faster than they can walk and so they switch between crawling and walking quite regularly, so you don't tend to let them do that outside if it's wet etc.

Even if she does start walking before Christmas, she probably won't be stable enough on her feet to be trudging around in ski resort slush etc. so I certainly would not buy expensive snow boots at this stage. The wobbly starting-to-walk phase can go on for weeks. If she topples face first into the snow, it's likely to dent her confidence, too. Alternative is holding her hand constantly, which is back breaking. A little sled or toboggan to pull her around on would be ideal.

God knows. DD2 took her first steps a fortnight ago (10m) and hasn't bothered since. The way she's going the lazy little bugger will be speedcrawling to school!

And no, i wouldn't bother with the boots. She won't be steady enough for snow even if she masters it tomorrow and DD1 who was 11m at Christmas hated the snow first time out. We have countless photos of her disgusted, unamused little face.

My LO didn't use a walker, he took his first steps at 14 months.

My DS has gone from first steps to toddling quite confidently in the house in around 6 weeks, but he's distinctly wobbly in even soft pram shoes and I can't get boots near him.
As a random aside, I bought him some Mocc-ons the other day and they are freaking GENIUS! He can walk 'barefoot' style in them, the soles are grippy and his feet are warm. Thoroughly recommend for the early walking stage.

Don't buy boots. Even if she takes first steps tomorrow it usually tajes them a good few weeks to get the the point where they prefer to walk than crawl. Even at that stage, no way cd she cope with snow.

About 3 weeks here from with walker to walking. And the about a week from first steps to walking up and down the living room looking very pleased with himself!

Don't forget that she will need something to keep her feet warm. I have just bought some snow boots for DD. The snow suit doesn't have built in feet and if she's in the carrier or sledge then she needs something that will keep her warm.
DS was 13 months his first Christmas and loved nothing better than sitting in the snow in his snow suit having snowballs thrown at him. He definitely needed snow boots for that!

Bumpsadaisie - not all babies crawl. DS didn't until long after he could walk.

You don't need outdoor shoes until babies are walking confidently independently, so if the snowsuit has built in feet don't bother as at this stage she is not going to be confidently walking in less than a month even if she is taking a few steps by then, and agree with others re snow and ice x

Been using the walker and cruising furniture since 7 months. Standing independently since 10 months. Able to go from sitting to standing without pulling himself up.

Still hasn't taken an independent step... 6 months on the walker and counting 😂😂😂
