Anyone else's 6 month old hit themselves repeatedly on the head??

I'm probably worrying about nothing (first time mum trait...) but my 6 month old dd has started hitting herself on the side of the head sometimes when she is having her bottle at nap or bedtime. I've assumed it's just a tired sign or a self soothing thing but she really does seem to wack herself quite firmly!
Has anyone else experienced this??

Is she teething? My dd (now 9mo) starting doing that when she was teething and having a bottle. I just used to move her hand and try to get her to hold my finger or distract her she now puts her hand on her cheek when she's tired or upset as comfort. Think she was trying to tell me her teeth hurt (probably not but I like to think that)

Yes! And also pulling his hair or even eyelashes while breastfeeding or while falling asleep. I agree that it's a self-soothing thing, but it is very weird and looks awful. I have never been able to stop him doing it though.

My 19mo still does it. Also pulls her hair. Done both since about 5mo.

You could try giving her some calpol and see if she stops doing it that way you at least rule it out if she continues.

Thanks all. Helps to know its not totally abnormal. I do keep trying to move her hand to her comforter instead.
Beanypip, yes she is teething but she's hitting the upper side of her head rather than her cheek IYSWIM.
And yes I think she's trying to pull her hair (makes a change from pulling mine...)

Ps hearmeroar: did try giving calpol but didn't make a difference. She didn't seem upset though so hoping its not a pain thing.

DD hits the upper side of her head when she is teething as it causes jaw and ear pain (if you have ever had tooth ache think how it made the whole of your face hurt). But if the calpol hasn't helped and she is happy in every other way then I wouldn't worry about it. Babies are just odd sometimes :o

my 15mth old son does that when hes going to bed. it could be its a boring repetitive calming thing. Hes done it since early on.

Yes my daughter has just started doing this at 5 months old when I feed her or put her to Bed. She’s really hitting h the top of her head and I’ve gave her calpol and tried to stop her but she just wakes up so I just leave her to do it now and she does stop and goes straight back to sleep. X
