Just 2 year old just picked up numbers 8, 1 and 3...freaked me out! Is that weird?

hi all
new here and have a question. My son who is doing well but by no means advanced suddenly looked at a large design with numbers in and I said where's '8' and he picked it out, then did same with 1 and 3.

He doesn't even really count - he goes 1,2, 4, 8 (he likes 8!)

Is this weirdly advanced?

I was a bit freaked out.

Why freaked out, my 20 month old can do that. Thought it was normal like picking out animals in books.

MY DS1 could do this with all letters and numbers well before he could speak. (quite late to talk at around 2) He's 11 now and reasonably bright, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Yes, maybe it is normal. DH says it's just like knowing what a sheep is in a book.

I don't know it freaked me out! Blush Just did.

My 17mo can pick out fridge magnet letters, not all of them, maybe about 5 or 6. I didn't think much of it, it's no different from any other object that has been given a name which he has remembered.

Do you think it could be a case of your baby growing up? I was the same Blush

DS is just turned 3 and has been able to pick out numbers for quite a while now. He loves numbers though and can count up to about 50 (when he wants to!) and can count up to 10 individual items.

Quite often when young it is recognising it from having seen it before rather than acutally knowing it in context if that makes sense.
