Hi, just wondering what techniques people use to teach the difference between yesterday, few days ago and last week. My son knows his days but as far as he is concerned anything that happened previously to today is yesterday even if it was days ago.

Would like any strategies or helpful ways to get him to understand how long things happened ago in the past.

Thanks

Too young. I think understanding the concept of time is a developmental thing. I don't think you can teach it. Dd is 4 1/2 and doesn't consistently get the different past and future times.

Aw mine does that tis cute! She's nearing 4 though and notably just said last year!

I think it's too young. DS1 is 4.5 and still gets mixed up. Anything that happened in the past is referred to as yesterday or last week.
He'll get it eventually.

Thanks for your replies! I thought maybe it was him making cognitive errors so thought I need to correct him iykwim.

But if its a developmental thing then that's fine. I just wasn't sure if I should be doing something actively or just give it time. But I think I will just use words like yesterday, last week and few days ago and hopefully that is enough for now.

Thanks again!

agree with the others - DD1 is 3.10 and is just starting to get yesterday, tomorrow, a long time ago, when I was little/a baby, when I am bigger. She knows difference between days of the week and weekends, and is starting to get different times of day - but her grasp of time is not secure by any means.
