My DS is 9 and suddenly seems to have trouble getting to sleep. He usually reads or is read to and then goes to sleep but in the last few weeks it is taking him a really long time, sometimes over an hour, to get to sleep. Then in the morning it it really hard to get him up as he is really tired and sleepy.

Also during the day he seems to have periods of almost hyperactivity where he cant seem to sit still and is charging about and throwing himself around. Is this just normal behaviour for a 9 yo boy? He has always been very active - but combined with the lack of sleep I'm worried that he is getting really tired.

Any ideas. or am I just being over anxious!

Has there been any changes at home or in his diet. How's he getting on in his new class?

His diet has not changed and he seems to have settled well into new class - parents evening went well. Everything else seems to be the same except he suddenly seems to have a lot more energy that he doesnt know how to use. He does football and swimming, so he is getting exercise. Confused

Really don't know then. My DS seems a bit hyper when he is tired, but haven't really got any suggestions if he is finding it hard to go to sleep. My DS is 8 and does Football, swimming, cubs and now wants to do karate too and seems to manage them all fine, so perhaps upping his activities might help?

What time do you put him to bed, OP?
9yo boys can be fairly restless, that's true.
