....wait until you say "Yes, in a minute..." and they count to sixty very loudly and then wonder why you are not ready to do what ever it is they were asking for.

She's 7. When will this phase pass?

We also skipped the why phase and had 'how?' instead. It's so much more difficult to answer. I found 'errr, I don't know, ask daddy' to be the best (and most accurate) response.

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2012 13:10

'Just because' is always a good reply to some of this. Wink

SconeInSixtySeconds · 03/11/2012 13:22

Indeed sparkling. You know those little twee letters that people have spelling eat and home?

I have one that says Just Because.

My children are scarred...Grin

Brilliant Scone. Grin

Other annoying stages. The 'Not now' stage. The 'In a minute Stage' And worst of all I think the 'Whatever' stage. But the 'Why' stage is mega grind you down as well!

I'm sure it has more syllables than that. Isn't it MUUUUUUMMMMMMYYYYYY?!

DontCallMeBaby · 04/11/2012 18:31

"Mummy" with two syllables is the precursor to all sorts of things. "Muuu-uuu-mmm-myy-yyy" (five syllables minimum) is the precursor to "the answer is probably no, but can I have some sweets?"

Of course the answer IS no. I wouldn't like to disappoint her. Grin

Shodan · 04/11/2012 19:20

Added to 'Mummmmyyyyy' is the lack of pause to wait for an answer.

Thus:

Ds2 : Mummmmmyyyy?
Me: (draws breath to answer)
Ds2 : Mummy, can I have a biscuit?
Me : (opens mouth to answer)
Ds2 : Mummmyyyy! Can I have a biscuit?
Me :(draws another breath ready to answer)
Ds2 : Muuuummmmyyyy canIhaveabiscuityou'renotlisteningMummmmmyyy.
Me: NO! (hyperventilates)

Grin Rogue sad face there!
