Pupils white in photos- 2 months old

Couldn't tell if it was the autocorrect on iPhone or really there. Ds' left eye does look different in some way, a bit more cloudy. I am taking him to the doctor tmw as I have concerns. He doesn't look at me but can see light & dark. Im praying its just delayed vision but googled ( I Know!) & everything came up as eye cancer : (
He was born after induction at 38 weeks. I know ds should be seeing by now. Any other similar experiences please.

Friends DS had similar, was quickly looked into because as you have found, it has been seen in cancer patients. But was found to be nothing. It's not unusual so please do not panic. But you're doing the right thing taking to GP

It could be the flash reflecting off the eye. There were white bits in the pupils of both my children but red eye around it. Have a close look and if the same eye also has red eye then it will be fine.

If not, still don't panic. Go to the doctor and they will check. When you were discharged they would have checked the eyes for the red reflex (that causes red eye - a Good Thing). If they didn't voice concerns then I would imagine everything is fine but just go to the dr for peace of mind from a medical professional.

He has had his 8 week check which came out fine but is still not looking at me even when close. He does look for light & follows sounds with eyes together. But he does not look at anything.

I cant help apart from the fact that odd pictures my daughter has the same, there is nothing wrong with her vision she can see a piece of chocolate a mille off!

But do not panic, you have an appt so there is nothing more that you can do until then. If your not happy with the answer you can always get a second opinion.
But you have done all you can do until your apt, so dont worry and just enjoy your day with your little one :)

My ds doesn't pick out anything. He looks away when you are near like he can't tell where you are.

Take him to see the Gp to be on the safe side.
It may be nothing but best to show the doc to rule anything out.

We had a couple of odd photos when dd was 12 months old - one of her pupils (same in both photos) was white, other was normal. Took her to gp with the photos and he had a really good look in her eyes with special torch thing. He said it all looked ok but referred us to hospital consultant. We would have had to wait 3 months for that appointment so went private for about £60. We had a long and in depth assessment where the consultant stained her eye to be able to look through it properly. Everything was fine, thankfully. It definitely needs checking out - particularly with your concerns about vision. Hope all is ok.

red reflexes should have been checked twice by now, so please don't panic. Mention to the gp that you're not sure if he is seeing yet, and don't be fobbed off, ask for a referral to have his vision checked.

Dr Google needs reporting to the GMC.

the iphone always makes my DD have white pupils, and other babies too...

IPhone (the newer ones) are known for causing the white eye effect. Google it.

When my dd was your ds' age she also didnt look 'at' things, and if I put my face in front of hers she would 'look' past me. I was convinced she couldnt see and got the gp to refer us to the hospital. She had her eyes checked at 10 weeks and all was fine, and she then started focusing on faces etc. Now her visions perfect (age 5) but I remember well how anxious I was then. Googling just made my fears worse. I really hope your gp reassures you, or gets your ds referred to someone else who can. Good luck

I'm an optometrist and in my job I see a lot of small children. I have had a few attend me because of white pupils in photos and not one actually had retinoblastoma or any other defect. And I always referred to an ophthalmologist for a second opinion just to be 100% safe.

Of course you must have it checked out as soon as possible but don't worry yourself about it beforehand. ( I know, I know, easier said than done!)

I noticed this on my daughter. I'm also a medic so immeadiately panicked about retinoblastoma. Rushed her to a consultant opthalmologist, It was the bloody I phone but the pictures were, in his words, 'very convincing'.
Definately get this checked but chances are its nothing, just the angle that the flash catches the retina.

Looking away from faces when they are close isn't unusual at this age or even up to 4-5 months - it's a strategy to reduce overstimulation. Chances are that everything is fine, but you're doing the right thing getting it checked out.

I was going to say 'overstimulation' too, but Casey has already picked up on that. Sounds as though you have it all under control in terms of getting checked out, OP.

Thanks guys. don't know anyone close by who hasn't got an iPhone to double check! I took several photos and the left eye does look noticeably different on all of them but will take the photos with me so the doc can see. Thanks for your responses : )

Just to give you an update I went to see the doctor today. He was sure that it was delayed vision as he said his red reflex is present & that we should come back in a month. Obviously we were relieved and went home. But then the doctor rang back to say he had just seen another baby who was younger and more alert than ours. He said that made him question his decision & is now referring us to an eye specislust I don't know how long that will take.

My baby had no eye contact at 3 months, and barely seemed to notice we were there. We were referred to a specialist. Turned out her acid reflux was distracting her so much that either she was just not interested or it delayed her development. We panicked sooo much and googled - big mistake. She is fine now.
