DD 18m bow legged and pigeon toed

Noticed today at the park that she has trouble putting one foot in front of the other with her wellie boots on. In other shoes she is fine, her legs just look bowed. One foot seems to trip over the other when she is in the boots though. Do I need to see HV or GP or is this just how she is? Dp couldn't stop a pig in a doorway so initially thought she had inherited this from him. Now wondering whether there's a chance it could worsen if left or if it could correct itself?

My ds 22 months has this a little. I was worried about it and read up on the internet. Apparently it is quite normal and sorts itself out as they get older. Seem to remember my bro had this as a child too until about the age of 10 and is fine now. Think from memory he was told to wear proper shoes instead of trainers. If your really worried I would mention it to your GP or HV but think she hopefully should be fine :)

Thanks gegs, not worried but a few comments from well meaning people made me think perhaps I should take her somewhere. It is very obvious but I just assumed she would either grow out of it or that's how she's made and that's fine. Will mention it at her next check at clinic.

bob- mine is exactly like that too with her new wellies that ive bought her last week (She is 17 mths old) and its looks funny her having bow legged.... looks like her wellies are quite big and she is getting used to it

Exactly biglips! she looks a picture when we go to the park and I laugh constantly at her (poor little thing). But as soon as she ups her speed and starts to run I have to grab her as I know she's heading for a fall. No park trip is complete without a scabbed nose and forehead!

I was told dd would outgrow this by 4 , but she hasn't. It is more pronounced in wellies and less fitted, supportive shoes and she trips herself up when she runs. Have had her assessed by orthopaedic speicialist and although he agreed she does intoe it is within the tolerance of normal so they'll just leave it. I suspect unless there are obvious physical reasons in her hip or toe they'll say similar of your dd.

Thank you Lizs. I think you're right. It was the mention of hip problems from others that got me thinking but I'm sure it's nothing like that. Started looking at toddlers legs and feet wherever we went and didn't see any like my dd's so thought I'd see what others thought. Thanks for your comments.

Bobalina, I think with a hip problem at 18m you're more likely to notice a limp as if they have a disclocated hip one leg ends up longer than the other. My ds had a dislocated hip but was born with it, so luckily was treated just after age one. DD's toes go in when she walks (in any shoes) but her hips have been checked and she is fine (despite being a girl/breech/not taking weight on her legs till 10m - total opposite of her brother!!). :)

ps... mine hadnt got a hip prob at all as it just when she is wearing her wellies so i wouldnt worry about it unless she is limping in her normal shoes
