Newly unswaddled and on a roll- is she safe at night....?!

My 17 week DD has just lost her swaddle, and is a great sleeper. But she has also just started rolling over onto her front with great gusto on her playmat. My paranoia is that she will do this in the night, and I"m not sure babies are safe to sleep on their fronts this early, any thoughts? She is also in her own room so Im worried I'll not hear if any problems develop.....
Ive got an older child, but my memory is that he was swaddled til later and also didn't roll so soon.

Hiya I haven't had this with either DC, but seem to recall the "rule" is that until they can flip front to back then they need to sleep on their back. Friends of mine who had this problem used sleep positioners, or one of those monitors that have a mat that you put in the mattress.

I never swaddled dd hated it but as soon as she can roll, she is fine

I think if she can roll on her front age should be ok, my dd didn't like swaddling so I tried a sleeping bag and she loves it.

the problem with sleeping on front is they can't move their head if their face is too deep into the blankets. If they can lift head when on thier front then they won't suffocate. So as I recall, you put them down on their back, if they flip to their front and stay asleep they are fine. Of course they may wake up and cry because they can't turn back.
grobags seem to cut the rolling a bit, they have to get really good before they can roll well in them, so that helps a bit

what's she sleeping in, ladyparking? My DTs have just been unswaddled (at 24 weeks... I know, I know, I kept bricking it in case they wouldn't sleep) and DT2 now quite often flips over and sleeps on her front. I've got them in sleeping bags with a fitted sheet on the mattress so there's no loose bedding for her to get her face into. IMHO you've only got a week or two before she'll be able to flip onto her back and until then you could just keep an eye on her? Seems a shame to mess with her sleep setup when you've got it so well worked out!

My dd did this. Until she mastered rolling both ways I rolled up two blankets and placed them under the fitted sheet and wedged her in so that she couldnt roll over. She also had a breathing monitor on and was in a grobag so that the blankets couldnt go over her face. Is she my PFB? Just a bit!!

She'll be fine. You can look forward to getting woken up several times a night when she whinges because she's got stuck on her tummy and can't get back again though! Ds still wakes up yelling to be rolled back over even though he is now perfectly capable of rolling both ways. He seems to forget he can do it.
