Sleep: 12 months, been co sleeping trying to break it

Help!!! I'm trying the super nanny just go in and lie them back down! He's totally hysterical but I can't continue with the co sleeping its making me so tired and grumpy because I find it hard to sleep when he's in the bed which has been going on for about 3 months.I know if i picked him up within seconds he would fall asleep...but its never going to break it! How long do I continue for?

Have you thought about more gradual methods of 'sleep training'? I imagine that for a 1 year old who has had the comfort of you there for such a long time the supernanny approach would be quite traumatic.

I totally understand your reasons to want to stop co-sleeping. I got to the stage with DD where it was still working for her.but so not working for me.

There are books like The No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley that offer gentle ways of stopping co-sleeping. I also.found 2 websites helpful because they offer lots of approaches:

The only other bit of advice I can give you is to pick a method and stick to it for a while, otherwise it'll be confusing for you and DS and it will ultimately take longer. Good luck.

This happened with two of my children where I got into bad habits with the co-sleeping and like you, I was the only one not getting any sleep! I remembering borrowing a friend's co-sleeper (when DD was still small enough) and then if she woke I could hold her hand but she wasn't in the bed. I then pushed the cot up to the side of the bed with the side down and did the same thing. It wasn't ideal but it definitely meant more sleep for me and she was happy. Then at about 18-20 months we moved her into her own bed (cot bed at that) in her sister's room. She would wake up at night still around 4-5am (and I would foolishly put her back in our bed) until just recently (at about 23 months) she became very good at self-soothing and going back to sleep. There wasn't anything I actively did! I feel very lucky.
