DS hitting other children

My DS (3yr2mths) has just started nursery and today I was told that he literally jumped on four children and grabbed them around the neck. Sadly, we've been having this behaviour problem for about two years now. He is a gorgeous little boy, very affectionate and gentle but when frustrated?? bored?? overemotional?? he lashes out. I've done the usual - removed him from the situation, time out, talked to him about it and so on but nothing works. I am at my wits end. I don't know what else to do and am starting to panic. In addition to all of this the nursery teacher also asked me if I had noticed that he had understanding problems. I was shocked, as I think that he is a bright little boy and I hadn't noticed anything like that. I've arranged to speak to the Nursery teacher to speak to her properly but the earliest she can see me is next Tuesday. I am worried sick. What could be wrong with him? What am I doing wrong?

Oh you poor thing. My ds threw a stone at another child within the first week of starting school. His form teacher later told me she thought there was an 'underlying problem' with him. He is now in year 1 and there has been no indication of behavioural problems and his teacher feels he is progressing normally. I think it's a bit premature of the nursery teacher to presume he has 'understanding problems', but maybe she was feeding off your concern about the incident with the other kids.

Little boys can be very physical and boisterous. One child at my ds' nursery bit or scratched my ds pretty much every time he was there! He grew out of it fairly quickly and he was an adorable little boy. This to will pass! Just keep telling him 'no' and doing what you're doing. I think making an appointment to speak with the nursery teacher will probably put your mind at rest and if it doesn't, perhaps look for other nurseries.

Thank you for replying! I think I will consider other nurseries if things don't go well after my appointment with his nursery teacher. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little better...

I guess I'm concerned that what he is exhibiting are early signs of aspergers or something along those lines. The comment about lack of understanding has really thrown me and causing me some concern.
