10 1/2 months old baby walks but never crawled

Hello, my DD took her first 3 steps at 9 and a half months. She's now 10 and a half months and walks confidently (and quickly!!). However, my DD NEVER crawled. Should I worry about her skipping this stage? Has anyone experienced this?

Some babies don't crawl. It's fine (they haven't read the baby books!)

Stealth boast. Wink

My DS1 didn't crawl or roll. Just sat there until he was 15 months old and then got up and walked one morning ( and had to go out and buy him shoes that afternoon as he didn't stop).

I wouldn't worry. My DS1 is 7 now and very sporty.

It's fine. DD wasn't interested in crawling (though she could move around in the most bizarre fashion) and got up and walked one morning.

DS crawled from v young but v quickly moved to spider crawling and at 9 months was off and running.

Some dc are content to sit, some crawl, some are desperate to run asap. It's personality as much as anything else ime.

I walked at 10 months and never crawled and I'm AMAZING.

Pancakeflipper · 18/09/2012 22:22

The bit about my son being sporty is a stealth boast Wink

My brother did that at a similar age. May have shuffled on his bum a bit but mostly used furniture to aid standing, then walked, then ran and pretty much kept moving.

I know quite a few children who never crawled before they walked including one of the children I look after. She took her first steps at my house, she just suddenly stood up and walked across the room Smile

My DD crawled but didn't walk until she was 18 mnths old, I worried about that!! Every child is different, you just can't help but compare them. Your DD sounds fine.

Thank you for your replies. In all honesty, I never really questioned the fact that DD never showed an interest in crawling until one of the mums told me that crawling is more difficult than walking and that crawling requires more co-ordination etc... After that I couldn't help wondering why my DD wouldn't crawl at all. As pleased as I am about the fact that she can walk about and be independent, that one comment really bugged me and since then I haven't stopped reading up about skipping the crawling stage! Thank you all for sharing your experience! I guess I'll sign her up for ballet or something next year and test her co-ordination then!! Smile

Crawling more difficult than walking? That's a new one, never heard that before Hmm

milkyjo · 18/09/2012 23:17

Let's face it most humans I see will walk so surely if a child has mastered this, crawling is obsolete! My ds never crawled but walked early. I also never crawled and I,m OK, I think!

DD walked THEN crawled a month later.

Seen a few articles about slipping crawling recently. See this m.parenting.com/article/do-babies-need-to-crawl#bmb=1 (sorry dint know how to make links).

Hope that the fact she is crawling now eliminates those worries!!'
