1yr old throwing tantrums - Worried he'll hit his head!

My son has recently started throwing trantrums (usually over the remote control, phone etc).

I am able to deal with the tantrum and calm him down pretty quickly, but what concerns me is that he throws himself backwards with some considerable force when he's going full throttle - I'm so worried he'll hurt himself. Usually, I'm around to soften the fall, but what if I'm not....

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Don't think this will help much but my DS2 started throwing tantrums at 11 months - if he didn't get his way he would turn round fast and bash his head on the carpet.

When we went on holiday he did this once on the tiled floor and then adapted his 'tantrum' after this.

Do you have hard floors?

i was gonna say same thng - when he hurts himself he should change his strategy

I agree - I think you're going to have to let him hurt himself and he'll stop - ds2 was just like this - he's nearly 2 now and if he throws a strop he'll still do something daft like bang his head, or more often hit a wall - but if he hurts himself he soon stops! In fact it's sometimes that that gets him out of the tantrum...

ds3 (14 months) has been doing this (copying his autistic brother who will happily hurt himself). He only did it once on the tiled bathroom floor- now just hits himself with his hand instead (again copied- but he does it gently).

Thanks for advice - suspected that was going to be the general view. Guess a bad experience will break the habit!
