Baby Hates Being In The Car! Any Tips?

Hi,

DD has screamed in the car from about 4 weeks old. She is now 12 weeks. She will howl for between 10 and 30 mins (haven't driven further with her howling!) before falling asleep. She also has the same dislike for her pram but is okay in it as long as she doesn't need a nap. The pram I hav given up on and just use a sling now.

Did anybody else have similar with their babies being desperately unhappy in the car?

I have tried:

  1. putting mirror in front of her, no difference
  2. hanging toys off mirror to keep her entertained, maybe gives us 5 mins peace tops before she cries
  3. taken out the wedge but left head hugger in, no difference
  4. cranial osteopath, sorted her trapped wind but not dislike of being in the car

I haven't tried:
1). A different car seat. At the moment she is in a maxi cosi cabriofix. She is happy enough in the car seat on the pram chassis during awake time only, if ab us due a nap she howls. I think this is because she is so used to napping in the sling?
2.) putting her in the front seat with air bag disabled (will have to pay VW £80 to do it but worth it if it works. If not have to pay same to get it switched back on again)

Or, is it just a case of hoping she grows out of it? Maybe when she learns to nap not in the sling it might help? She won't nap in pram either. Is it because she isn't close to me? I know FF might help when she is old enough but was hoping she would stay RF as long as possible. My son is 2.8 and still RF.

Thanks
Pie

If there's two adults in the car, can one sit in the back with her? At least then when DS starts crying someone can talk to him, make eye contact, hold his hand etc.

My dd was exactly the same. Screamed her head off in the car from a few weeks old. Pushchair only marginally better. We had a maxi cosi cabriofix for the car and I sometimes used it on a quinny zapp but maim pushchair was Phil&teds as we had a just 2yr old.

Unfortunately nothing we tried worked. As she was slightly small for her age she wasn't able to go forward facing till 13mths and things did improve a bit. At 2.5 she is ok in the car as long as she has her muzzy.

Someone suggested putting her seat on the other side of the car as that worked for her dc.

DS is in the back next to her, have no idea how he can sleep through her howling! I have just introduced a comforter for sleep times so might get a spare I can use in the car. Can't believe how different the two children are, DS couldn't stay awake in the pram or car, the total opposite to his sister!
