My dd is 9.5 months old. She has been clapping and waving for approx 6 weeks now. A few days ago she started raising one arm towards whatever she was looking at, sort of pointing but with her whole hand. Is this her starting to point? if so any idea when will she begin to do it accurately (as in with one finger instead of whole hand? )

Sounds like it. My DD clapped around 7.5 months. Waving came a few weeks after and pointing a few weeks after that. She did the hand thing first and then went really quickly to the finger pointing. She's always been fascinated by little things eg buttons on my top, zip on the changing bag, the teeny nose on one of her dolls so her finger/thumb coordination and picking things up was really good, even at 7-7.5 months. So she's been pretty good with putting finger out to press things etc. It just carried on from there really.

We now walk down our local high street with her pointing at everything and me saying 'yes, that's a car', 'yes, tha Man's wearing glasses', 'yes, a bus', 'yes, that's a shop', 'oh...a dog' etc etc. ALL day, EVERY day!!! Wears me out!!!

Should add that it's been great for her learning. We play 'where's the...clock/cat/door' etc and she's points them out. She points at pictures in her book and knows cat, dog, horse, pug, cow etc and eyes, nose, mouth and basic foods eg banana, apple, tomato etc.

She jus needs to catch up onthe words. Dada, Mama, Nana and 't' is for cat. She does oo-oo for toot-toot when she hears the train go by and points out the window in the direction of the train.

It's great fun as I can see she's come on loads in the past few weeks. She's 10.5mo now.

Have fun!!!
