15 month old punching

my 15month old dd has recently started punching
people. sometimes she does it to get someones attention, other times she just comes up and punches and walks away. i have told her no, put her down on the floor and told her its not nice to hit. she also bites.
she is quite a bright child, walked early, cut teeth early etc, could this just be frustration that her speech is still (obviously) babytalk and we dont understand her? she has tantrums, the whole feet stamping, hands flapping, throwing herself on the floor, and can get really emotional at these times tho they dont last for long.
i know she is still young and probably doesnt 'get' what she is doing is wrong, but how can i try and stop it? she is a large child so is very strong. in fact i'm bruised from her punching me in the face the other day.

this probably isnt the kind of help you want, but have you consdiered baby signng??
i tried it with my ds about 1 month ago (he is 16months going on 17) and it has totally relieved the frustration of being unable to communicate properly!!
i wish i had tried it earlier...
won't solve the punching, but will help the frustration
serach for signing on the serach board
