When do babies crawl?

Ds is 7.5 months. We want to go away for a long weekend which I think will be nightmarish once he is on the move. How long have I got do you reckon?

Any time from about 5 months to 18 months, going by my friends' babies. No way of knowing.

But if you are put off a weekend away by the thought of a crawling baby (not exactly fast) just wait until you have a toddler. Or any age child, really.

Varies massively. "average" ages is apparently 9 months. Ds, hilariously, was spot in for this. Ditto the supposed "average" age for walking - 13 months. But we know lots of babies who did then both before and after him .

when they feel like it Wink. Don't put off a holiday for that they'll never be easier to catch than now. Teething on the other hand...

My dd was just under 6 months, and by 6 months was pulling herself up against the furniture and cruising. Its actually nice once they are on the move, is there anything in particular you are worried about with regards to your holiday?

Sometimes they don't crawl, one of mine bum-shuffled from around 9 months, then walked, this let him with no motor skills though as he had not been using his hands.

About 9 months is average although ds did a funny thing only akin to butterfly stroke on land from 5 months on and could get anywhere until he properly crawled at 9 months.

This was mildly embarrassing considering my job (child development related) but an important lesson for me on what a big spectrum normal development is :)

I crawled when I was nearly 2. I walked when I was 9 months :P

DS crawled at about 14 months, but walked at 11 months. Was very useful, I could leave him in the middle of the room with nothing to pull himself up on and he'd stay there!

Don't put your holiday off for that. It's much more awkward when they're inquisitive toddlers and can reach things!

Ah. Very interesting, thank you. It's not a holiday, it's a weekend away staying at a gastropub with rooms run by some friends of ours. Ds is easy to keep entertained looking at things and wandering around at the moment so going anywhere is basically fine. But once he is crawling, he'll need somewhere safe to crawl and the pub/rooms won't be it. We'll just go sooner rather than later. Thanks all.
