Really annoying cough

My 4 YO DS has started a ridiculously annoying cough. He's starting school this week so I'm wondering if it's a nervous something or other but it's driving me mad.

Tried telling him off .... Tried ignoring it.... Any suggestions?

He doesn't seem to know he's doing it and nothing in particular brings it on

Its Not whopping cough .... ! It's just a silly cough like an a-hem excuse me type cough. Which he can stop if he thinks about stopping it.

I would ignore it and chances are it will tail off very quickly.

The more you call his attention to it the more likely it is to stick around.

It could well be linked to worry about school so shouldn't last too long.

My son had a similar cough at a similar age, he didn't know he was doing it and grew out of it within a few months.

Could be a minor tic type of cough, nothing to worry about. Also try not to bring attention to it as with my son he wasn't even aware he was doing it and the more I told him not to, the more it seemed to happen.

Worry or excitement would make it worse.

My 4 year old DS (also starting school this week) does exactly the same thing and it drives me a bit mad! He does it especially loud in the morning in an effort to wake up his baby sister. I think it's become a habit and could poss be a nervous thing related to starting school. Ignoring is the best cure I reckon but that can be impossible sometimes! Hope it goes away soon!

Phew ...Thanks everyone ! Glad its not just me! Apparently the Lego ninjas have caught the cough monster today so things might be looking up!!
