Baby started crawling - now won't go to sleep!

My DS is 7mo and he's started crawling this week, as well as pulling himself up to standing. He just wants to do it all the time, including when he is exhausted and I'm trying to put him down for a nap. Or, worse, if he wakes at night - he's woken crying a few times this week and I have found him attempting to crawl in his sleeping bag (this may be frustration though as he can't get very far in it!).

It's becoming a nightmare, taking up to an hour to get him to fall asleep. Even though he's crying because he's so tired, as soon as I lie him down he rolls over and tries to stand up or crawl. If I hold him and try to rock him to sleep he just tries to crawl up me and gets more frustrated.

His sleep had just started to settle and I really feel like it's a step backwards. I get that he is excited, and just wants to practise his new skills all the time, but when will it stop?! Is there anything I can do to help him? Or do we have to ride it out and accept it'll be a bit bumpy for a while?

I think it's time to get him out of the sleeping bag. With his new found freedom he could be feeling really restricted in the bag and be getting anxious about it perhaps. Imagine you went to bed with dome kind if restrictions on your (newly discovered) ability to move around freely. Sure, he might take a while to get to sleep for the next few days or so but the novelty I'll wear off.

Novelty will wear off, sorry
