How often does your baby poop?

Sorry about the topic!

My 5mo ds is ff but we have started to wean him early (Dr advice, reflux). Until we started weaning him he'd only poop every 3-4 days and get in a progressively worse mood as it went on, until he pooped. Since we started giving him purees a few weeks ago he's been going every day. Today he's gone 5 times, fairly heavy each time though getting lighter. This is unprecedented - even as a bf newborn he'd never go more than 3 times. I don't think he's ill - in fact he's in a fantastic mood and the poop looks normal. There's been no change in the food/milk type/amount in a few weeks. He has been teething though. Not really worried about if this is normal, but wondering really if this is likely to continue and how often babies this age/ with a bit of purée are likely to go. This is a fun new stage for us now!

DS went 5-6 times per day at that age. Still goes pretty frequently now - I put it down to a fast metabolism. Sure it's nothing to worry about it it looks normal.

(DS is 20 months now btw and I am looking forward to toilet training as I spend a fortune on nappies with all the pooing!)

Thanks suburb - was a bit surprised at such a sudden change. The trend has continued today but it!s starting to cause him a bit of discomfort so I might need to get him checked out anyway. If only they came with translators!

I do love a poo thread!

My DS saw a dietician (sp?) recently (as he has a dairy intolerance and I wanted to make sure that as I wean him, I give him enough of the right things...) and she said that 'normal range' for pooing is between two extremes of one poo every three days to three poos a day (we were discussing DS's poos, natch).

It sounds like he may have an upset tummy either from teething or some fruit that hasn't agreed with him - hope he's feeling better/you've had him checked out and all is well!

Slightly concerned that a dietician reckons 3 poos a day is an extreme! My DS has never rarely had that few! Hmm, perhaps I'll mention it next time we see a GP/HV!
