DD(4) has, for a long time, enjoyed role-playing her heros from various films (mostly boy characters, but that's not a problem!).

The problem is she spends the WHOLE TIME reminding us who she is and it's MINDBENDING!

Example: 'Mummy, I'm Simon today. Can I be Simon today? Mummy I'm Simon today.' Me: --, put your shoes on please. ' I'm Simon Mummy, I'm Simon. Can you call me Simon Mummy?'. Two seconds later. ' Mummy, I'm Simon Mummy'. This goes on all day.

She changes character from day to day.

Has anyone else experienced this? I wondered if it might be an attention-seeking device; a sort of 'checking-in' with Mummy, as it appears more frequent when I'm busy with DS(6m). (either it's more frequent or more annoying as I'm trying to concentrate on something at the same time!).

Does anyone have any ideas how to manage it? I know it doesn't sound like much but it's such a wind up and at the end of a long and busy day today, I've just shouted at her which I feel dreadful about, as she's not being naughty as such.

my 22 month old dd when asked her name say sshe is 'dora-boots' you can tell what she watches on tv! Grin

mine have all gone through phases of this and ds2 who is 10 would like to be called max, he is oscar, but bizarrely for a day when he was born he was max but we decided it didnt suit him!

the sticker idea is a good one, just humour her nad you sometimes have to block out the repetitive chattering!

My 7 yr old DD wishes to be known as Jessie (toy story). This has been the case for the past 3 years. I am supposed to have known when she was born that she wanted to be named Jessie. She frequently tells me she will only listen/answer/do as I ask if I call her Jessie. 3 years of this I've had. 3 fecking years. I just don't entertain her any longer. I am of course a bad mother 'cos I won't indulge her any more. I usually dealt with it by not asking her by name to do anything - just got her to look at me and then I'd ask her/tell her what to do. Now, I just give her my Hmm face, and she gives me her Angry face, and so it goes on...

My dds are 9 and 7. I don't dare call them by their names any more.

"No, mummy, we're HERMIONE and GINNY."
