My face is covered in scratches :-(

DS is going through a phase of clawing at my face. He usually does it when he gets over excited or at bedtime. He also pulls my hair a lot.

I know I should not react but it is very difficult not to scream in pain.

One of the scratches is quite bad and has left a red scar, i'm sure in time it will go down but in the mean time it looks quite nasty, especially when combined with the other smaller ones.

I'm really getting fed up, and want this phase to stop as soon as possible. Its not like other phases such as throwing things or screaming where they will end and no harm caused - this is damaging my face!

Has anyone got any ideas? (Or any recommendations for foundation that will cover the scratches! Mine doesn't completely hide them)

how old?

it's horrible, isn't it?

sorry to say that temporarily at least you need to keep face/hair away as best you can, develop rugby-type swerve, be ready to block a blow with your forearms

chat about gentle hands, teddy or doll useful for modelling careful gentle hands

He does it when I'm carrying him or giving him a cuddle at bedtime. Its really hard to swerve, I can avoid 9/10 bites and hits without a problem!!

I've been putting my hair up but that hasn't helped at all.

We say gentle and he strokes us, and if he hurts me then he usually kisses it better. I just need to wait for him to grow out of it don't I :-(
