My twins have just turned 3. They sleep 12 to 13 hours at night and almost never nap in the daytime anymore, havent done for nearly a year now.

But it seems like they were more capable of getting through the day 6 months ago than they are now. Can start even as early as 10am somedays though its usually after lunch onwards, best described as 'flopping about', one sucks his thumb, they whine and whinge, come to me and apparantly lose the use of their legs as they try to get me to give them a cuddle or will just flake out on the floor. Then half an hour later they are tearing off full of energy again until the next time.

It seems like others their age have more stamina, and i do get comments from other mums at tots groups and play parks sometimes that they seem very tired. Like when every other child is off at a tots group playing independanly and active and one of mine is walking around in a daze with her thumb in and not knowing what to do with herself.

Its like their energy level fluctuate so much. Am worried about them starting at preschool in 2 weeks i just cant see them coping with it even tho its only 3 hours.

i think they eat pretty well but they are both on the lower percentiles of weight chart and look lean. worried about a physical cause like anemia or diabetes or are they just going through a big developmental leap or growth spurt thats making them extra tired??

Just wondering if anyone elses 3 year old is like this cos it seems none of my friends little ones are which makes me worried!

3yos are the whingiest creatures on the planet. FACT.

Energy... argh. They just vary so much. DS2 was a whirlwind, DS3 is very low key, you hardly know he's there. Emotions play a big part, and being emotional makes you feel more tired.

My 3.10 month old still sometimes needs a nap. He also wines a lot and flops around if he doesn't get his way or is feeling generally irritated which is a nightmare as am pregnant and can't lift him when he's flopping.
I'd ask the doctor but sounds like prob just another phase!

Ds is also 3 and does get much more tired when having a growth or development spurt. He's quite tired at the moment as he's off nursery and getting lots of individual attention from me and dh and lots of days out.
