DS sudden fear of weeing/being naked in bath - a sign for potty training?

Hi am new to mumsnet, so apologies if in wrong thread.

My DS is 2yr 1mth and has suddenly become terrified of being naked in the bath. He holds onto his bits, tugging them and saying 'no wee' over and over - it's really distressing and we've ended up cutting the baths short, or putting a face cloth over his bits which eases his concern enough for me to wash him. He did do a poo in the bath a couple of weeks ago, but didn't seem affected by it at the time but could this be a late reaction? We've never told him off for weeing or pooing anywhere, so I can't understand the anxiety.

Also at the same time he's been walking around holding his nappy saying 'wee' and 'poo' to me, and he usually predicts correctly. So I'm starting to wonder if he is ready for toilet training? But then I don't want to make him more anxious by forcing the potty too soon as he hasn't seemed keen on it up to now.

Any help much appreciated!
