Is ds ready for potty training?

My 2.3yo ds has just suddenly "discovered" the potty!! He asks to have a wee on it every time his nappy is changed. Is this a good indication that he's ready to start potty training and therefore we should go for it whole heartedly or should we just continue with this? I don't want to set him up to fail!

My DD has just trained at exactly 2 and a half. We had quite a few accidents in the first week but she's cracked it now and asks for the potty or just quietly says 'a wee wee is coming' if we're out and we go to a toilet. She still wears a pull-up at night.
I'd go for it!
