Aaaarrggghhhhhh! DS2 (18m) has recently started biting me. Only me Sad and God does it hurt! How do they manage to get just the top layer of skin to really nip?

He's bitten me twice on the face (bruises are obvious) and loads of times on the legs and arms.

When he does it I try not to react, just put him away from me in the vain hope that the lack of reaction will stop him doing it.

I know it's just another 'phase', but has anyone else got any good ideas to help me stop him doing it? Please..

Hi Pfer
I'm afraid they all seem to do it sooner or later - my baby daughter took to biting me 6 months ago and she still does sometimes (now almost 11 months). Both my sons bit for a while. You just have to grin and bear it until it passes.

When he bites, just say "No! No biting!" in your most serious voice, and put him down away from you for a few seconds. Not reacting is OK for some situations but he needs to learn that biting is not OK, and will only do this if you tell him no.

Agree with WWB, I remember posting something similar when ds was 10 mo. Still nips occasionally now but grew bored of being told no and nursery kept giving him 'time out' too.
Promise the message does eventually get through

DD went through a phase of hitting me in the face. I quickly realised that shouting at her didn't work but did find that just putting dd down and walking away did the trick. Once I went into another room and held the door shut. She was distraught, but I just calmly told her she mustn't hit. The next time she was annoyed she went to hit me then stopped herself, so it had definitely sunk in and she was around 18m at the time.

Most of you will probably think this is wrong, but it was the only thing that worked or my eldest son, and having spoken to lots of friends they all did it too.

He was the same at about 2, luckily it was only me he was biting nothing worked at all, one day he bit me and drew blood so i'd had enough, so took his hand and bit it until he said it hurt. i then explained that it hurts like that when he does it to me and he has never done it since.

Ifelt awful immediately afterwards but it did the trick.

Scream bl**dy murder!!! DS (2.0) bites every now and then and draws blood! I was so shocked the first two times that I lashed out and smacked him off my arm Blush (not too hard, honest!) now I just go

AAAAAAAAAARGH!

Which makes him think about it!

I also try crying and ask him to kiss it better afterwards
