2 years 3 months - Hysterical when nappy taken off

My 2 year old daughter has gradually become more distressed at being naked over the last week or so, when her nappy is taken off she started getting a bit panicky and asking over and over or a fresh one, now it has got to the point where she cries hysterically until a fresh one is put back on, bathing or showering has become impossible as she gets into such a state. She is only cared for by me and my husband and tbh if she were cared for by anyone else i would be concerened that something was going on that shouldn't be. I am wondering if she is just getting ready for potty training and is worried about weeing or pooing on herself, but even if that is the case I really don't know how to deal with it? It is horrible seeing her so distresses. She has no rash or sore area and does not have a wee infection so this has been ruled out too....any ideas? Please!

Have you tried her with knickers? Might be more of a reaction to having to wear the nappies.

Yes offered her pants but she gets a nappy from the draw where there kept and lays down crying for me to put it on her

One of my DTs (2.6) is like this. I just give her big cuddles, gently tell her to calm down, reiterate all the time that it doesn't matter if she does a wee or a poo while her nappy is off or she's in the bath. I also reinforce this while her nappy is on.

Me 'Does it matter if you do a poo or wee while you're nappy is off'
DT2 'doesn't matter'
Me 'what will you do'
DT2 'I'll cry'
Me 'what will mummy do?'
DT2 'cuddle me'
etc etc

I think it started when she pooed in the bath once. She can get really, really upset but has recently been able to run around outside in the garden with no nappy on for long periods. Sometimes she'll get upset and hold her bottom and I think she thinks she's going to do a poo. Normally just a trump Grin

It'll pass!

This is going to sound really weird but if its only in the last week or so do you think its cos of the weather? I've noticed since the weather's been really hot that DS is getting a bit upset sometimes as he's feeling so hot and sweaty in his nappies. Maybe your DD is feeling the same and is just loving the sensation of getting the fresh nappy on?

Thanks for that I really do feel for her, I even gave her a shower with her nappy on last night then whipped it off at the kast minute to wah her, as I couldn't bare to see her so upset Blush. Hopefully it will pass soon x

Ah, I see! Then I think maybe you're right, probably distressed in case she pees or poos without her nappy on. Hope it sorts itself out soon whatsleep

Hi,
long shot as I know this was years ago. My daughter is doing the exact same. For about three weeks now. Did you ever manage to help your daughter? Find a cause?
