I don't know where to turn for help! DD has massive tantrums, throw herself on the floor kind!. She did this in a shop today and now has a nice bruise on her head. She doesn't like groups of people (family gatherings). If she doesn't want to go somewhere she "kicks off" I feel tired of it!

sounds within normal.. what does she like?

We only have a few "proper" tantrums from DD (2.5) but when she does I take a very deep breath, lower my stress level as much as I can (as I think she feeds off my stress levels quite a bit), and then just sit on the floor near her trying to stay as calm as possible!

Oh and totally ignoring and strangers or passers-by!

Then when she is ready, she knows that a big hug is waiting for her.

I really found that when I started doing this, the number of tantrums, their intensity and how long they lasted, really dropped.

I have sat on the floor in a number of places including supermarkets and even the pavement.

Sounds typical to me. And I agree with backpackingfamily's method, as I use it as well.

Make them as safe as possible and just wait for it to pass. And ignore anyone tutting or staring or what have you.

Bit of a pain if you have a baby who needs changing, ice cream thawing out, or a train to catch in 2 minutes, though.
