Calpol makes my baby sick

Hi. My little girl is now 15 wks and is showing signs of teething. I gave her some calpol tonight to help but she threw up, really sick. I have only ever given it to her once before and she was sick then too. Suppose it could be coincidence; has anyone else experienced this? Is there an alternative, especially if she ever has a fever? Thanks

I have had the same problem with dd since she was 1. We are prescribed suppositories which work brilliantly and no tummy ache - nurses and GP are all fine with it.

Oh really, calpol suppositories? May mention it to my GP. Worries me that if she gets a temporature I have nothing to hand. Thanks

Is it the sugar free version? My DD had a reaction to something in the sugar free calpol leading to horrendous nappies for 24 hours afterwards (only realised after it had happened a few times) mentioned to nurse and she said to try the ordinairy calpol and she's been fine with that

No it's just the normal one. I tasted it and it is really sweet. Will look at supermarket brand. Thanks all.

another one here - my DD vommed calpol (she had reflux tho) so we had suppositories.

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 25/07/2012 23:29

altho - it made for an interesting morning at nursery when DS went in and said 'mummy stuck a lump up DD's bum' as i dropped them both off...

All mine used to throw up Calpol. Always fine with nitrogen for children though and it seems to last much longer too.

ZuleikaD · 26/07/2012 06:11

DS throws up the strawberry Calpol but is fine with the orange one or with orange flavoured Nurofen.

Ha, that made me giggle NoNoNoMyDoIt. Kids always know the best ways to embarrass you! Didn't even know you could get other flavours. Maybe I will try a different flavour first. Thanks

mine gets a rash with it and complains his mouth hurts, we get a plain one on prescription

Munchkinmommy · 26/07/2012 22:23

So seems quite a few of us have had problems. At least there are alternatives, we are going in holiday abroad soon and so want to make sure I have something just in case.
