18 month DS does a weird thing...

If he's playing in 'public' (for example at the park or at a play group) and I'm with him, and another child comes up and joins him, or looks at him, he points at me! It's like he's saying "that's my mum" or like he's saying to me "make them go away". Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Ha ha my DD does exactly the same thing and she's 18 months too. I thought it was just her.

When any anyone talks or looks at her in a public place she points at me and says 'mummy'.

That's good! I've never seen another child do it :)

My 14 month old DD does this but only with her dad. It definitely means in her case:"Oh My God. Check out my dad. Look at him! He's so great. Look! Look how great he is. Oh My God. You're able to see him! Look. Oh My God!"

So I'd take it as a great compliment.

Yes that could be an accurate translation. "Recognise that you are in the presence of greatness. Mummy" :o

Ds3 is 2 and a bit and only when he sees kids of his own age does he come over to me and shouts really angrily at them "my mummy". He does t do it with other age kids. It's like he doesn't want them to steal me or something.

Lolly, your DS sounds like he's protecting you. I'm not sure that's what my DS is doing (wish I knew!) but maybe that's what it'll turn in to...
