Does your 18 month old kiss you a lot?

My DS is fabulous - very tactile, loves holding your hand, jumping on you, holding your legs, being very physical. But if you ask him to come and give you a kiss, the chances he will are small. The only time he will, without fail, is if he's been carried and will lean across and give you one!

But should it concern me? I'm not even sure I classify him as unaffectionate, just not a big kisser and not yet learned how to hug...

does your ds kiss and hug at this age?

No! Ds2 offers you the top of his head if you ask him for a kiss. It's become a joke in the family. He's kissed me on the lips twice. I think it's perfectly normal :)

Snap!

DS does everything you've mentioned, but again, just not keen on the kissing.

Actually, come to think of it, he goes through stages, one day he will, the next he wont. He also has times when he will kiss, but he's picky about who he will kiss, thatsa ma boy!!! (wink)

Okay, that makes me feel better...!

But also Canada, he will surprise me and blow kisses to a friend or someone outside of the family, so yes he's picky...actually I think he does it to piss me off!

I call her name and say "no kiss" then I get one. I don't think this will work for long but I'm happy for now.

Devora · 21/07/2012 21:53

dd1 would rarely hug me, let alone kiss me, at that age. She's making up for it now Smile

dd2 was more of a kisser, but frankly it's an overrated experience, getting a faceful of toddler slobber and snot.

StarMeKitten · 21/07/2012 21:54

18mo DD blows kisses a lot and will kiss you if she feels like it, but never does when you ask her to.

CanadaCalls · 21/07/2012 21:55

I hear ya sister!!

He does the exact same thing to me! Some days I practically get on my hands and knees and beg the little charmer for a kiss, but nope, he will not give in.

Daddy walks in and he practically lunges at him so he can smother him in kisses & dribble. I used to get offended, but now I just dont feed him for a day or two if he does it to me Grin he soon gets the message

ObviouslyOblivious · 21/07/2012 22:02

He blows kisses quite a lot, and at bedtime daddy gets a kiss, then I get a kiss, then he shoves daddy out of the door and I put him to bed :o

ha ha - this makes me laugh

All we want are kisses...!

It all sounds very similar, though...

My 18mo DD never did. But now, at 20mo she's suddenly (in the last two weeks) started giving me full arm round neck hugs and pursed lip kisses. It's lovely and was worth the wait!

EugenesAxe · 21/07/2012 22:07

Nah he didn't if I remember rightly. Around 2 yrs he moved his head towards yours. Now age 2.5 he will make contact with lips, but he still doesn't really know what to do with them!

Of course he doesn't really need to kiss me, since I kiss him too much! He's too cute.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 21/07/2012 22:10

My DS was never into kissing and hugging but his younger sister is much more tactile and since he's noticed the positive reaction she gets from giving affection he is more inclined to give kisses and hugs now too Smile

Tee2072 · 21/07/2012 22:11

My son, at 3.1, still only gives you the top of his head if you ask for a kiss! I think he's actually kissed me about 3 times.

He does blow kisses and loves 'big hugs' where he wraps his whole body around you and snuggles in. That's fantastic!

puresweetie · 21/07/2012 22:55

he doesn't really know how to hug...we've been teaching...!
