Is it normal that 19 month old DS has so little attention span? I have no context

DS started to walk about 17 months so the concept of exploring on his feet is new, to be fair. At home he has a consistent penchant for emptying the spice and pan drawers and throwing around a ball - and he can spend good time on this although while walking around in between...but when we go out, say to a playground or farm, he gets onto the swing, for example, and then immediately wants to get off and go onto the slide...oh no, not the slide, the trampoline...oh no, not the trampoline, the sand pit...the tractor...no no no. He just points wildly at everything and wants to keep on trucking!

he's a placid little man and very very adorable - but I just wondered what other boys his age were like...

Sounds like a totally normal, active boy to me!

Totally normal for any child of that age-not just boys!

my dd is 19mths, she walked at 16mths and is exactly the same as were my 4 boys before her, they just want to explore EVERYTHING! :)

MixedClassBaby · 20/07/2012 21:04

My 19mo DD is exactly the same. Exhausting!

It is exhausting... but sort of fun.

He has two cars in the garden and can NEVEr decide which one to sit on. Sits on one, gets up, goes to the other.

Today we went to a play place where there were - I kid you not - 17 cars for kids to sit on and ride. All. Exactly. The. Same. We were early, the only ones there, and he went from car to car for nearly 25 minutes...could not decide!

Perfectly normal, and it isnt a short attention span so much as ......I want this one,....but that one looks nice.....no, that one......that one is GREEEEEEN!......I want a drink...........ooh look at that one!

Everything is new! Everything is exciting when you have never seen it before, imagine everything you see being brand new, could you choose between them?
:)

Bogey face, that's such a good way of describing and seeing it - thank you

I cant take credit for that, although i would love to!

I read it years ago when DS (now 21 Shock) was small, and it really helped with the seemingly unending walk to the shop and back that was about 100 yards total! Every fag end, every weed, every stone, every dog turd Hmm needed 5 minutes consideration before we could move on. The book/article (cant remember now) I read made me see it with his eyes. Imagine never seeing a fag end or a weed or whatever before, you would want to look at it and think about it wouldnt you?

It made the trips seems less long, and actually did make me look at things that I had always taken for granted, in a different way, ermm nice things like flowers obviously, not dog poo :o
