This is probably so trivial that I can barely believe I'm posting it, but you know when sontething gnaws at your subconcious...

DS is 6 months old and I've recently gone back to work. My in laws are looking after him 3 days a week and he's in nursery on Fridays. He appears to love it. I also think he's starting to twig to the going somewhere else for the day thing so separation anxiety is but a stones throw away (For him - I've already got it.) He's a very smiley easy going baby but one thing that DH and I have noticed lately is that we really seem to have to work damn hard to get the smiles out of him, whereas he lights up like a Xmas tree for everyone else. Honestly, it's like everyone else is Tommy Cooper and we're the Taxman! I'm probably just being a PFTP (Paranoid First Time Parent) but we can't help thinking that somehow we've done something wrong and feeling slightly rebuffed as well. (I know, I'm just being a twit but...)

don't worry, he knows he doesn't have to perform for you and husband, he knows he doesn't have to charm you, because you always love him,

and don't fall into the mistake of slipping off unnoticed, or he will start to be suspicious, always say a quick clear goodbye and wave with see you later, that way he will always trust that you announce you are off.

and you are not a twit, it's not silly to notice changes in your child, and talk about it.

Thanks, thanks. Thanks

I'm rarely super paranoid parent (nowadays) but that was niggling me somewhat. It was a "what if he's worked out more than we think he has, argh" moment! And a half. Just a lovely 1.5 hours with him and now he's in bed.

All is right with the world for a bit phew
