7 year old DS crying at school

My 7 year old DS keeps crying at school when they sing songs. In particular sad songs. We have had this problem since he started reception and despite many hugs and supportive words from us and his teachers nothing makes any difference. Our DD 4 has now started doing this at her nursery when they sing and I am at my wits end.(they attend different schools, she has never seen her brother crying at sad music). Please help?

Ah God bless them! They must be very sensitive! I would talk to them about how some people have the giift of being able to "feel" music and others not so muuch....my DH is like this...always has been and now my youngest DD is showing signs too.

It's just their ability to tap into emotion....it's a good thing...but you sould explore music with them out of school....take them to concerts...play them different things at home on Youtube...classical, rock, folk...find comedy songs to make them laugh....show them the whole range of emotions which music is designed to help us explore.

And maybe consider music lessons for them?

Thanks for your advice, music lessons is a great idea, I think you are right I need to expose them to lots of different kinds of music.
