Treasure Basket - where did you get your goodies from?

I thought I would make one of these for DS as he's 9 months now and crawling and getting into everything, fascinated by textures, tastes etc. So far I have:

  1. a tea egg, which he loves as the metal egg bit separates out from the plastic handle so he likes to throw it and watch it spin
  2. a metal ladle
  3. a wooden spoon
  4. a couple of knitted toys that squeak
  5. a woven little bag for tea that I got in India
  6. a candle box (candle removed as he would just eat it I'm sure...!)
  7. a ceramic spoon, Chinese-style
  8. a piece of crochet

And that's it! Any other ideas? Our house is very decluttered and I'm not a artsy craft-y type so where else can I get things from? What did you put in your baskets, if you made one?

jar lids
wooden curtain rings
silk scarf
raffia ball
lemon reamer
metal and wooden egg cups
pastry brush
small basket with lid (Ikea)
pine cone
metal spaghetti measurer
wooden nail brush
soap holder, the type with little suckers for sticking to tiles

Most things come from home/kitchen shops or supermarkets, just keep a look out for interesting things whenever you go shopping.

Go to wilkinsons if there is one near you and pick up random stuff - I got a dog chain and whisk amongst other stuffGrin

Shower puff - but cut any hanging loop off.

ButtonBoo · 12/07/2012 21:00

Most of the stuff others have listed but also bought some plastic cotton reels, a pedicure sponge, a metal spiral egg cup, a shell, a wire bottle brush, a mirror, a fir cone, a make up brush (bristles well tested!!), a pocket mirror, a big piece of chiffon with stars on (we 'hide' under it), a loofah sponge and then various plastic bottles with rice, lentils, teeny balls in etc.

DD is now into music in a big way so it's all about anything to shake or bang. Oh the joy!!!

Clothing tags - the kind with ribbons and a fairly chinky bit of cardboard on. My DS LOVES these. Also a bead necklace - undone. My DD was so not bothered by this idea but DS loves a good rummage!

BobbieSox · 12/07/2012 21:04

Sorry CHUNKY cardboard Blush

Wilkos, pound shops, charity shops.

There are some lovely ideas here.

Plug & chain was a big favourite here for ages (needs careful supervision though).

Great, thanks for all the suggestions - love the idea of the shower puff and pastry brush. The tea egg are ceramic spoon are his favorite right now so I think kitchen utensils may be the way to go...!

The website I linked to suggests putting about 50-60 things in there and I had so few I couldn't think where else I would get anything but I have some ideas now. Thanks all!

Bottle (e.g. empty plastic coke bottle, cap removed), squeezy bottle (like those plastic ketchup/mayo bottles with a flippy lid - DS LOVES those), jar with lid. DS also seems to have taken a liking to the dustpan & brush, so I'm thinking of getting one just for him, as he keeps grabbing the one we use to sweep up the cat litter!

BlablaSos · 14/07/2012 20:34

Fill an empty bottle with rice to use as a rattle.
Save the tops off squeezy food pouches (if u use them) and tie some string through them.
Laminate some photos of the family to put in there (but watch sharp corners).
