Hi all. My 16 month old has a nap at 10am for 2 hours then goes to bed at 7pm but does not sleep through the night at all. I kno this may b partly habit I've created but does he need another nap in the afternoon? When he goes to sleep at 7 he falls into a really deep sleep very quickly but then wakes at 10pm then 1am etc I normally end up with him in the bed with me! Please help!

Ds is 14 months and is not ready to drop to one nap. We have tried and it didn't go well. At the moment his routine is like this:
6:45am - wake up
9:30am - half hour nap which we wake him from
2 or 2:30pm, depending on how tired he is - nap til 4pm at latest.
In bed asleep by 7:30pm.

According to the baby whisperer, most children drop to one nap between 12 and 18 months. Their forum has lots of sample routines - I know bw is not for everyone but I found the average sleep amounts particularly helpful.

Dd is 16 months and dropped to one nap at about 12 months.
7am up
8am breakfast
1030 snack
1145 lunch
1215 nap for about 2 hours
3pm snack
5.30pm dinner
Bed by 7

All times approx obviously. She sleeps 7-7am mostly except for teeth/illness.
There is a sleep regression around now, could that be it? I agree with a previous poster, I would stretch him out a bit further in the mornings.

Thanks girls! He goes to sleep awake and is brilliant at going to sleep. I may stretch morning one out but he would b grumpy Sad he dropped to one nap by himself x

I would guess that he is overtired by bedtime so that is why he is frequently waking. I would definitely give it a go pushing his nap back.

My 18mo has 2hrs around 12.30-2.30 and sleeps 7-7ish at night.

Good luck :)

My 16mo routine:

7am wake
9-10.30am nap
2-4pm nap
8pm sleep

He naps for 13 1/2 hours on average and sleeps 11 hours straight through the night.

He's not ready to drop the morning nap - somtimes he does without if we're out and about, but he just sleeps longer in the afternoon and following day.

Do you feel your DS is lacking sleep? Is he often grotchy in the day - difficult before bedtime? If not, the night wakings may have nothing to do with the daytime routine.

I mean he naps for 3 and a half hours!
