2.4 yr old speech

My 2.4 yr old had her developmental check last week adn the only area of some concern with the hv was her speech. She's a very very quiet speaker (almost whisper most of the time) she can be loud - when she's excited etc. She's not stringing too much together although can do about 2 or 3 words depending on what it is and her range of vocab is massive. However, she doesn't seem to be able to ansewr questions ie do u like so and so, she generally tends to repeat the last word u say an awful lot. Has anyone else any experience of this and/or anya dvice on how to improve the volume (i know in years to come i will relish these quieter times!!!) and the answering of questions?

knat if you say to her talk louder does she? MY ds is the same age and sometimes whispers especially if he is unsure of what he is saying so I ask him to say it louder. WE also play games of loud and quiet so we have to copy what the other person says but in the same way. So if I whisper he whispers if I shout he shouts etc. I only started to do this because DS speech is not very good so its a fun way to get him to copy and it has helped it improve. In terms of the questions you may be asking complex ones or ones with too many options. I know Ds can get quite easily confused by this too so it has to be very simple and clear what you are asking.

Nothing too constructive to say - just keep talking to her about everything and anything.

My ds took a while to string words together and this is what HV advised. It will all click in time and you will wonder what you were worried about. :)

I think it's a bit early to worry about whether she can answer "do you like...?"! Are you worried about her? In my experience health visitors sometimes worry about things that aren't important and don't worry about things that are. At this stage if she understands you and can communicate then I wouldn't be concerned yet.

nemo - she does sometimes talk louder all depends. I do show her and say look momy say i tloud now Grace and sometimes she does soemtimes she doesn't. I wasn't too concerned asher vocab is brilliant and she has come on so much but her volume level is causing me problems at times, she is so quiet. Also she does just tend to repeat the last word u say which can get a bit annoying!!!! i don't know why she does it...i don't think i'm asking too complex questions, just do u like teletubbies? etc .
