Well almost. Ds (20m) has funny red/yellowy marks on the tips of his forefingers - can only assume its dead skin from biting his fingers. We've only noticed this in the last week.

This morning noticed his thumbs and a couple of his fingers have welts(?) on them, on the bits where they bend (is there a name for those bits??) also as if he's been chewing on them. He used to have this occasionally on thumbs while teething but not this bad.

Has anyone else encountered this - particularly the dead skin thing? I'm trying to watch for him biting his fingers but he doesn't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary.

The red/yellowy bits look like burns. But I know it definitely isnt that.

It could be dermatitis/sensitive-skin or ecsma. My son has similar problems but it's easy to avoid and fix if you know what you are dealing with. Personally I'd take him to your family doctor.

Yep take to the doc. He could be doing it at bedtime? Do you stay with him or leave him to it?

does it look like blisters on his hands? could be hand, foot and mouth virus. he might have the blisters on his feet and in his mouth too, and maybe slight cold symptoms
