Self soothing?

Hi all,

My DD is 6 weeks old today.
Shes been realy good so far with sleeping, when she eventually does drop off.
She cant seem to settle herself unless her pacifier is in, she constantly spits it out, cries until we put it back in & then eventually she drops off (after about an hour of the spitting out, put it back game!)
I dont like to leave her crying for long.
So im wondering is it too early to let her settle herself back to sleep? If not how long should i leave it before going to her & putting her pacifier back in?
Thanks

Hi pinklady, is this your first child?

Which books are you reading or advice following?

I don't much about stuff, I'm no expert, I haven't published any books or articles, but in my mind, this thing about self soothing is not for little babies. At 6 weeks old, a baby should not be left to cry. She is way too little.

I agree that you shouldn't pick her up the second she starts crying, but in my opinion (and you will always receive conflicting opinions from all over the place) a baby that young should not be left to cry for too long.
