Is there something wrong with my 4 y o dd?

I am beginning to wonder if there is a medical issue with my dd regarding her bowels.

She is still not clean 100% and will often have poo in her pants for ages before me or dh smell it. She claims she didn't know she had done it. She will often poo on her bedroom floor after we have put her to bed and then we find her carrying the poo downstairs or washing poo off her hands. This evening dh went to check on her and there was poo smeared all over her rug.

We often have to tell her to poo and have sometimes had to sit and tell her when she has finished by watching her squeeze for a poo.

We have tried rewarding her, getting cross, giving her time outs but nothing seems to work.

I am taking her to the doctors on monday, but obviously don't want to discuss this in front of her.

Does anyone have any advice please? I am at my wits end and am really beginning to worry if there are other underlying issues - medical, psychological?

Hi. I would consider getting in touch with your health visitor re the poo. She would be able to advise you on whether you need referral to the continence nurse. Possibly your dd is constipated? My dd1 has problems with constipation and currently this is presenting itself as many small poos with smearing on nappy (not toilet trained - yet!). Poo is not necessarily hard if constipated. But passing poo is difficult and may be small and frequent which could explain what's been going on. HTH.

Thanks seaweed, I have discussed this with hv before but wasn't very helpful.

Constipation could be the answer, we struggle to get her to drink very much.

Sounds just like one of mine who was constipated at similar age.
