Over excited seven year old boy!

My seven year old gets very over excited in the company of other kids and family and friends. All sense and good manners seem to go out the window! This has caused problems at school especially in the playground as he's always messing around and seems to do anything other children ask him to and then gets into trouble for it! Apart from this he's a lovely boy with a great sense of humour! I feel embarrassed leaving him to play at anyone else's house as I'm sure some people are wondering what way he is being brought up! We've tried talking to him and dishing out a few punishments but it doesn't seem to make any difference.... Help! I feel like a mum who can't control her child!

I have one like this! What do they do at school? They must be using some strategies to manage his behaviour when it's inappropriate, so you could talk to them about what does/dorsn't work for them.

Also, I have found with mine that instead of trying to squash the excitement, I try to channel it into more appropriate places. So when I'm thinking "for fuck's sake shut up", I say "wow! You're excited! Why don't you show me how excited you are by drawing a picture/putting your clothes on Really Quickly/running up and down the stairs" or whatever.

It can be hard work parenting these kids but I think trying to squash the feelings that cause this behaviour can only lead to it fizzing up somewhere else...
