Can a baby sleep too much?

My baby is 4 weeks old. She is generally awake for 1.5 hours in the morning, another period of about an hour in the afternoon and an hour or two in the evening but other than that she is constantly asleep. She wakes herself to feed and is bright and alert when awake, but it just isn't often. She never cries other than to be fed (except in car which she hates!) and once she is she sleeps. I can't remember how much DD1 slept at this age, but DP says his children were awake (and crying) much more. Should I be concerned?

I think so long as she is gaining weight well, and is alert when she is awake, has a good colour etc, this sounds fine. They are supposed to sleep a lot. As always, check with the doctor if you are worried, though.

DC2 and DC3 were very sleepy for the first month. Basically they'd wake for a feed and then go so sleep again.
DC1 was awake and crying a lot (DC2 and DC3 were MUCH more pleasant children)
