Argh! Best Training/sippy Cup

DS is 17 months and still doesn't really "get" from a sippiy cup, he only drinks from bottles and even then I have to give them to him because he won't hold them up IYSWIM.

I've tried various different cups but he doesn't seem to understand how to do it. Any advice in the best training cup to use would be really appreciated.

Sorry about the typos, suffering with very sore carpal tunnel and having to use my left hand for everything Grin

Are you using the non-spill type? I found with my DS1 that he didn't get what to do, because he couldn't taste anything coming out of the cup. If the cup has a removable valve, try taking it out so that the cup becomes free-flowing - hold it gently so not too much goes in at first, but maybe when he knows what is in the cup it will encourage him to try. I found the small tommy tipee cups with a simple lift up spout were good because the juice flowed freely (and even when tipped over never spilled much).

Hope this helps!

I second the tommee tippee first cup with the flip up spout - when they get older and more proficient then you can use it with the lid off as an open cup

Thank you! Is it called the Tommee Tippee first cup?

DH insisted on the no spill types so maybe that's why it's not working for us.

yes it is the tommee tippee first cup. You can get them in the supermarkets, chemists, boots, etc

some kids are good with straws, not mine :) but some do 'get' straws straight away. The tommee tippee simple cups are really the best and quite straightforward

Quick update, got the tommee tippee first cup and he's done brilliantly with it and seems very proud of himself Smile Also got his first pair of proper shoes and he seems very grown up all of a sudden Grin

MN saves the day again!
