Hi! I'm just interested to find out at what age your DC were able to complete 4-6 piece puzzles. Smile

DS is 2.4 and hasn't a clue.

A couple of his friends have been doing them successfully from about 2.2...

tittytittyhanghang · 26/06/2012 21:02

thank god for that answer iwillonlyeatbeans, mil bought one for ds (18 months) and he tried to eat it before stamping on the board and sliding the pieces under the sofa. I shall leave them there now for at least another year Grin

mistlethrush · 26/06/2012 21:03

We started with 2 piece ones Grin.

pushmepullyou · 26/06/2012 21:03

About 18 to 20 months I think. She was doing 9 - 12 pieces by 2.

Sadly her early(ish) puzzle ability does not do far seem to have translated into any other form of genius Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 26/06/2012 21:06

DS has been doing his construction 3, 4, and 5 piece puzzles from about 1.9. This may be related to his obsession with diggers.

bruffin · 26/06/2012 21:10

Dd was doing 50 piece puzzles at 2.4, she had burnt her hand and was obsessed with them and went from 2 piece to 50 pieces in a few weeks.

GnocchiNineDoors · 26/06/2012 21:15

Well....not 6mo. My dd picked up a peice of a big floor jigsaw at a friends house and started munching on it. She did pick "X Xylephone" so clearly a genius Grin.

dimdommilpot · 26/06/2012 22:29

DD is 20 months and has been doing them for a couple of months now. She loves them.

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2012 22:34

About 18 months

EBDTeacher · 27/06/2012 07:16

My 22mo picks out the pieces that go together and puts then in a neat little pile. It doesn't matter how many times I make the jigsaw, he takes it apart again an put the pieces back in their pile.

Each to their own. Grin

I think it differs so much from child to child, Ds is 2.6 and can do 50 price ones, he was doing 4 piece ones just over 1

jaggythistle · 27/06/2012 07:41

DS1 is 2.9 and has only really 'got' jigsaws in the last few weeks. not sure if he couldn't do them before or just wasn't bothered!

seems to love them all of a sudden though.

GobblersKnob · 27/06/2012 07:48

Differs massively. Both of mine are very mathematically minded and started doing 6-12 piece puzzles earlyish (around 18 months) both could do 50 pieces with ease around 2. Dd would now happily do 200+ at age four, however her cousin would is exactly the same age would struggle to do 12, he just hates jigsaws.

Whatever floats their boat really, it's just play, children have different preferences for different things.

brightonbleach · 27/06/2012 13:22

mines not really into jigsaws, even though he is very mathmatical, he's 2.7 and just now doing a 6piece cat jigsaw he was given ages ago! I just think they all have different interests.

lottytheladybird · 27/06/2012 13:49

brightonbeach - Just out of interest, how can you tell your DS is mathematical at such a young age? (Both DH & I are mathematicians!)

My son is 2.4 and Is very jigsaw happy at the moment. He easily completes 35 piece but going to buy him a 50 now to make it more challenging for him.

bruffin · 27/06/2012 17:49

DD is 14 now and always been fairly mathematically minded. When she was little, If we had the radio on in the background and dates were mentioned, she would pipe up that was 4 years ago etc
She was g&t for maths in primary and now top set in secondary. She was good at non verbal reasoning from a young age as well.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 27/06/2012 18:06

DS 1 could do 24 pieces at 18 months. Probably started doing puzzles at about a year?

AdventuresWithVoles · 27/06/2012 19:05

Anywhere between 18m & 3yo.

flussymummy · 28/06/2012 20:19

Dd1 was doing 6 pieces at 2, 50 pieces by 2.3. DD2 went from 2 pieces at 20 months to 50 pieces by 22 months. Both had extreme obsessions with jigsaws (30x per day) for several weeks and neither has shown any interest in them since - weird! Seems like it's a peculiar little phase that they go through in their own time- like everything else that toddlers do!
