My 9MO should really be sitting without falling over by now shouldn't she?

DD2 is 9 months and even though she can sit, she can't sit for long without falling over. For example, this morning in the space of half an hour I had to pick her up 3 times (I have a soft surrounding for her to fall on) Im sure DD1 was able to just sit by now without me worrying about her falling over.

Im thinking of taking her to a drop-in with a HV tomorrow to discuss her development or was DD1 just a faster developer?

My dd1 didn't sit till 9 months either. She preferred to roll and was commando crawling at 5 months. The others sat much earlier. No harm in chatting it through with the HV. Does she seem to have usual muscle tone and strength otherwise?

None of mine could sit reliably at 9mo. One of them couldn't sit at all at 9mo (he prob was a bit delayed though, not that you'd know that now). Don't stress just yet, she's still within 'normal' range.

She does have the strength. She loves trying to stand while on my knee or if I want her to sit so I can put a top on her.

Thanks Bertha I probably am panicking, but when one child is slower than the other you do wonder, which is why I just wanted to see what other mums had to say, after all it is looking at other children's development ages that helps you to determine if there is anything to be concerned about or not. Also it doesn't help when I was looking on a couple of websites that seem to suggest that a lot of 9 month olds are not just sitting, but are also pulling themselves up too.

I wont worry too much just yet then.

My dd2 didn't sit up at all till she was 10mths or walk till she was 22mths, she's 2.10yo now and has completely caught up. The fact that your dd can sit at all is a great sign and hopefully she'll be just fine :)
