Dd, 7.5 months, started sleeping on front

Long time lurker, first time poster so be gentle with me.

I have just been up to check on Dd, as both my Dp and I do every night, and have found her sleeping on her front. This is the first time she's slept on her front in her cot so I'm a bit concerned as to whether this is normal for a 7.5 month old baby.

Can anybody please clarify if this is normal development for the age, or should she be turned on to her back?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

(Ps, we are both first time parents).

from 6 months you can let them find their own sleeping position so I would leave her as she is

BlackOutTheSun · 24/06/2012 22:27

Well you can turn her if you want to stay awake all night turning her. Or you can leave her be as she must be comfortable. Smile

I'd say leave her

justabigdisco · 24/06/2012 22:28

Def leave her, our 6 month old has just started doing this. Much better than turning onto front, waking up and crying to be turned back, as she was doing before! Now we all sleep a bit better.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 24/06/2012 22:29

Once they can turn themselves, it's fine :)

BertieBotts · 24/06/2012 22:29

It's fine once they can roll.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 24/06/2012 22:29

As long as she is able to roll over leave her too it u will be up all night moving her back mother of dd who never slept On her back from a month old :)

thingamajig · 24/06/2012 22:31

Its fine, don't worry. If she can turn over then she is big and strong enough to lift her head, so she won't suffocate. I would continue to put her in her cot on her back and let her turn over if she wishes to do so. My twins started doing this at this age, it is a normal developmental thing.

My DS (now 10 months) has slept on his front since he was about 5 months, I put him in his cot on his back and he rolls straight over. I figured if he could roll himself onto his front, he was capable of moving back if he needed to. Also, we'd had about 8 weeks of really rubbish sleep (waking every 45 minutes) and he slept much better when he started rolling over so I left him to it Blush [rubbish neglectful mother emoticon!]

Thank you all for your comments and advice.

Dd has never had any trouble sleeping, and since she started sleeping through has very rarely woken in the night.

I have turned her onto her back, she didn't waken or make the slightest murmer. It will let me sleep better! :)

She's probably back on her front already Grin You really don't need to worry about this now. Very normal that you have worried though. Dh and I did exactly the same with dd1.
