why is he crying? Bad digestion?

I have a 2 week old, who I would say is generally an 'easy' baby (so far!). However he sometimes gets very upset for no obvious reason when he feeds - he is bottle-fed - and I wonder if it might be a digestion thing.
He starts to feed, is fine for a bit, then starts crying furiously when the bottle is still in his mouth, but doesn't want to let it go. I usually then take the bottle out and burp him. He seems to really like leaning over my hand, so there is pressure on his stomach while I rub his back. This works for a bit and he goes quiet and calm, but then he gets abruptly upset again, arching his back and flailing his arms. Sometimes he will take the bottle again and sometimes he refuses it for a while. He spits up a lot, so I now keep him vertical for as long as possible after feeding him.
I don't understand why he is getting upset - I suspect it might be painful trapped wind or something - what do you think?
I don't think it's a problem with the formula because this doesn't happen every time. It's only about 40 - 50% of the time. The rest of the time he is happy and calm when he feeds.

Sounds like wind to me, especially with the back arching. We had similar issues and put DD on Dr Browns bottles, swapped from SMA to Aptamil and also used Infacol. That, along with really meticulous winding seems to have solved the problem for us.

thanks, I'll try that.
