Pointing with middle finger

My son who is almost 1 seems to be right handed. He has developed the bizarre habit of pointing at things with the middle finger of his right hand rather than his index finger. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Yep, ds is three years old now and still regularly does this - we try and gently guide him into using other fingers as it looks obscene!
